September 18, 2008 - Choice Food Group Named Among Fastest-Growing in Middle Tennessee
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 5, 2008) – Choice Food Group was named one of the fastest-growing, privately owned companies in Middle Tennessee by the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. It was ranked among 50 companies selected as winners of the chamber’s 17th annual Future 50 Awards, a program that promotes entrepreneurial growth within the Middle Tennessee area.
Choice Food Group, Inc. (www.choicefood.com) is a Nashville-based food service company that represents a portfolio of food service companies, comprised of wholesale and retail distributors, manufacturers, processors and marketers.
Jerry Walker, chief executive officer of Choice Food Group, was presented the Future 50 Award on September 18, 2008, at the Chamber’s awards dinner honoring the 2008 Future 50 .
This year’s winners represented a broad range of business categories, including the retail, wholesale trade and health care industries. To be eligible, companies must be headquartered in Middle Tennessee, have at least 10 employees or annual revenues of at least $500,000 and anticipate revenue and employment growth of 10 percent or more per year for the next three years. The nominations are collected by the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and tabulated by KraftCPAs, the official accounting firm of the Future 50 Awards.
“This year’s competition was made especially difficult by the high number of applications we received — as a matter of fact, the highest in almost four years,” said Charles Sueing, president of The Sueing Agency, Nationwide Insurance & Financial Services and chairman of the Chamber’s Small Business Council. “It goes to show the strength of these companies, despite the challenges of a less-than-perfect economy.”
As of December 2007, the Future 50 Award winners employed approximately 6,270 people and their annual revenues reached a combined total of $701 million (only 41 companies released their actual annual revenue), which is an increase from last year’s
reported $332 million. Of the 50 winners, 25 were winners for the first time, 20 were repeat winners from 2007 and five won the award in previous years.
Choice Food Group is a privately-held investment company that has made investments in Tennessee’s established food institutions. It currently specializes in food service distribution with Choice Food Distributors (www.thechoicefood.com ) as well as food manufacturing and marketing with Choice Food of America
(www.choicefoodofamerica.com). A complement to its food distribution business is Hobson Food Services which specializes in customized processing and distribution of poultry and beef products and American Seafood which specializes in customized processing and distribution of seafood. Nashville Cash & Carry allows its wholesale distribution business to broaden into the retail market with its outlet store, offering the public wholesale priced institutional foods and party supplies.
Choice Food Group also has caught the eye of others, being ranked among the Top 100 fastest growing and emerging companies in Tennessee in 2007 and 2008 by Business Tennessee Magazine.
The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce is Middle Tennessee’s largest business federation, representing 2,500 member companies. Together with its affiliates, the Nashville Chamber works to strengthen the region’s business climate and to enhance Nashville’s position as a desirable place to live, work and visit.
