Rick D. Hobson Vice President Hobson Food Service, Nashville, Tenn. Mr. Hobson has over 25 years of experience in the food distribution business, specializing in further processing of poultry, beef and pork. He grew up learning the poultry business from his father, Don, who established the company in 1982 as a merger with Decker Poultry & Produce, a 40-year-old company. Rick joined Hobson Food Service in 1985, after spending his first three years after college building his own food distribution business called Duran Distributors. He currently oversees operations and sales, its USDA facility as well as warehouse & inventory management. Mr. Hobson has worked along side his father and mother, Barbara, in the family business for over 25 years, helping to grow it as well as develop new processes and systems to make the company the success it is today. He was instrumental in establishing some key initiatives that were turning points in the company’s success. Those programs included launching the company’s custom poultry processing; conducting the merger of the meat and pork divisions; designing the present plant location and new warehouse; initiating their cheese program; starting the company on computer systems as well as establishing the company’s Hazardous Analysis of Critical Control Points (HACCP) Program in 1998 to meet requirements as a USDA facility. When Rick’s father passed away in March 2004 from a long battle with cancer, he and his mother maintained the business operations, with Rick serving as vice president. Within his community, he serves as an arbitrator and mediator for the Better Business Bureau, a volunteer position he has held since 1987. |
Barbara Hobson Ms. Hobson has over 25 years of experience in the food industry, specializing in further processing of poultry, beef and pork. Over the years, her knowledge of the business has grown full cycle from owning and operating an egg farm to a further processing plant, all along side and under the stewardship of her late husband, Don Hobson, who passed away in March 2004. Refining their company’s processing techniques and systems as well as specializing in customized meat products led to Hobson Food Service being awarded the 1987 and 2007 Purveyor of the Year award by the Tennessee Restaurant Association. |
