He is known for his keen sense of taking concepts and building them into thriving businesses through partnerships and steadfast leadership. With over 30 years of for-profit and non-profit management experience, he also is CEO & Chairman of the Board of XMi, HealthConnect America, LLC, SelectAir, LLC, and XMi Financial Services.

Mr. Shmerling has served and continues to serve in leadership positions and on the board of directors for various for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, including those in the banking, health care, arts, education, social services and justice, business & commerce, and public policy. He has received numerous awards and recognition for his business achievements as well as his active involvement in public service and his philanthropic support. He specializes in strategic planning for the expansion of businesses through acquisitions, product development, and structural organization. He previously served as senior vice president of finance and operations for Kroll Background America, Inc. a background screening business with multiple products and business lines. Prior to that, he was vice president of Southeast Operations for Philip Metals for 10 years with responsibility for seven operating facilities. He is a certified public accountant (inactive).
